Green Flash 30th Street Pale Ale

Green Flash's '30th Street Pale Ale' is a love letter to the San Diego Beer district on 30th  Street. Some have called San Diego 30th Street the 'new beer capital of the US' so it is only fitting that there is a beer named after the micro brewing community.

Now '30th Street' is a bitter beer with a strange flowery flavor that makes it one that should be tried for every bitter beer drinker. This is not to say that this beer is good. In fact, both my brother and I disliked it as we dislike bitter beer. Still, 30th Street has so different a flavor that you can't tell if you like it unless you try it and see.

It boasts of three kinds of hops and reminds me of the smell of water that has been in a flower vase.

TaB

Introduced in 1963, 'TaB' is Coke's answer to Royal Crown Cola's 'Diet Rite' and had great popularity between the sixties and seventies. The beverage lost popularity when research indicated that it caused cancer.

Now a-days we have little evidence that this will cause cancer so the worlds second diet cola can be enjoyed with the knowledge that it will only lead to butt leakage, kidney problems, and an incredible urge to have sweets.

The only reason you have diet soda in general is if you have blood sugar problems and even then in moderation.

Now to be honest this tastes okay and works well with whisky. I've tried making pick-me-up's with it and found that it functions okay for that as well.

If your hoping this product will help you lose weight the answer is that it likely will not. If you want something that will taste good and not add sugar to your diet this is worth drinking.

Prego Italian Sausage & Garlic

Prego 'Italian Sausage & Garlic' is a solid sauce but not as good as there normal meat flavor. There was real Sausage in this sauce but normally Italian Sausage has a stronger flavor than this one.

I can't say the sauce put me off but Italian sausage should be louder in flavor and spicy enough to clear my nose.

WaBa Grill Chicken Plate

WaBa Grill's 'Chicken Plate' is a good amount of chicken and more vegetables than you get from most fast food restaurants. I will say that I very much enjoy these WaBa Grill plates but don't go thinking these are so healthy. They are healthy by comparison but you need more vegetables to make a healthy meal.

Still, this is like ten times better than a burger.

Burger King Onion Rings

Burger King 'Onion Rings' are as flavorless as onion rings can be and still be made of onion but still are some solid rings. The onions stay in the breading. I hate onion and yet I review rings from every restaurant I go to that has them, and I can say these are good for the money.

They are no were close to Maggie's Pub, but these are okay.

Burger King Irish Mint Oreo Shake

Burger King 'Irish Mint Oreo Shake' is not very minty. In truth it wasn't even very cold because we all know there is no shake in that stew of chemicals.

I'll admit that this tasted great but knowing what it wasn't bothered me.

Burger King Angriest Whopper Sandwich

Burger King 'Angriest Whopper' Sandwich is a whopper with hot baked into the bun, onion things, and angry sauce. I have to say that this was hot and handling it stung just a little.

I thought this burger was worth trying, but it was kind of sloppy. I got angry sauce all over my hands eating this, and the onion things got soggy because of all that goo.

Would I recommend this? Yeah, I'd say because it's a limited item give it a whorl. It's an okay burger.

House Foods Organic Tofu Firm

House Foods Organic Tofu Firm is, well, Tofu. That's kind of the thing with Tofu. It tastes like almost nothing and so you have to flavor it as best you can. I will point out that it works well with curry.

I've been getting this stuff because my brother wants to cut down on the meat in our diet. Well, I have to admit that I never say "gee I want some Tofu' but it works well enough to eat every now and then.

Tito's Handmade Vodka

Tito's Handmade Vodka is a Texas made vodka that I would not drink straight. Then I'm not a vodka man by any means. I had a shot of this and then chased it with a vodka and juice and felt nothing.

All in all, I think this stuff is great for mixing but I'd stick to doing shots of Wild Turkey.

Omega Burger Chocolate Shake

Omega Burger's Chocolate Shake is made from real ice cream as far as I can see and they use real chocolate.

I think the deal is they have a supply of vanilla ice cream on hand and then keep flavoring it with things.

This is actually a great idea and if I weren't a fat pig as it is I would be hording vanilla ice cream as we speak. Being fat is no fun, honestly.

Omega Burger Homemade Onion Rings

Omega Burger's 'Homemade Onion Rings' are the most basic idea of an onion ring that can be concocted. This is not to say that they are bad. The onion stays in the ring and these crunch under your teeth but they are made for dipping.

If you want something to dip than these are top of the class. If that's not your bag these will leave you wanting.

Omega Burger Polish Sausage Sandwich

Omega Burger's 'Polish Sausage Sandwich' is exactly what it says it is a Polish Sausage Sandwich. Given how much meat came in their Pastrami I was disappointed. I mean, that Pastrami was stacked.

In any case, this comes with a sliced grilled Polish Sausage, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and mustered. I have never understood mayonnaise and mustard together but it worked out well.

I would say this is an okay sandwich. It wasn't kickn' but it was worth eating.

Omega Burger Zucchini

Omega Burger's 'Zucchini'...huh... are we sure that isn't fried zucchini? Really, just zucchini, well, as they have no other kind of zucchini I guess you don't need to point out that it's fried.

In any case, this stuff was crunchy and fresh enough but came out of the breading from time to time. It had enough flavor to it to be eaten on its own but came with ranch that was great for dipping. I also had some with ketchup and that worked out well.

By no means should you pretend that this counts as a vegetable in your diet, but It could be a lesser evil than Omega Burger's French Fries which are enormous and should be way more calories.

V8 V-Fusion Pomegranate Blueberry

V8 V-Fusion Pomegranate Blueberry is more calories than some sodas and not as good. I will grant that it tastes okay and is better for you in terms of miconutrients, but it just doesn't go well with whisky.

Now I would stick with low sodium V8 if health is what you're looking for and you're short on time, but if it's this or soda this will kill you a littler slower.

I'm reasonable sure that drinking my calories is what turned me into a fat tub of lard. Then again, I've never had more than one of these in a day and never more than a 11.5 oz can so that fact that it's not that great could be a plus.

Prego Flavored with Meat

'Prego Flavored with Meat' is a funny name for meat sauce. Wouldn't it just be 'normal'. I'm putting this in the same category as the whole 'Milk Chocolate M&M' thing.

This is smoother and less chunky then Prego's 'Roasted Garlic and Herb. You would think that Herb, whoever he is, would be made of meat as well but I'm not looking into that.

I thing this is better than the other Prego's I have, had and I was able to make it without burning the pot.

Foster Farms Homestyle Turkey Meatballs

These Foster Farms Homestyle Turkey Meatballs say '100% All Natural'. Well, let me have a look.
Wow, I can recognize all the ingredients! Hold on, I need a moment!

Okay, these natural turkey meat balls are a solid buy, seasoned enough to be eaten on their own but light enough to take seasoning of your choice.

The down side is one: saturated fat, and two: you're eating balls, but in this world it's better to know that you're eating them than be blissfully unaware.

Hiram Walker Creme de Cacao Brown

'Hiram Walker Creme de Cacao Brown' is much like the white variety only brown. This is a chocolate flavored Liquor.

I found it sweet and flavorful and I tend to mix it into iced coffee. It doesn't work as well in hot coffee for some reason but that could be, because I'm not using enough.

Now I did look about for human rights violations in the procuring of their chocolate and couldn't find any but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

If they make fair trade chocolate Liquor I'd buy it but until they do this stuff will work.

Yellow Cauliflower

'Yellow Cauliflower' may very well be Orange Cauliflower that is a bit pale and so would have the same 25% more vitamin A over white. Given that there are varying cultivars I'm not sure.

This tastes just like the white stuff only its better for decorating your plate. I like buying it but not paying more for it which is why this one looks a hair old. You see, it was half off at the farmers market.

Ray's Tepeyac Shredded Beef Burrito

Ray's Tepeyac's 'Shredded Beef Burrito' defeats the idea of a burrito by covering it with slime. This is a burrito that you need to eat with a knife and fork which is an idea I just can't get my head around. I used the chips they give you to take chunks out of this monster.

Taste wise I would say this is solid but the problem was all the not beef stuff took away from the beef. There was green in that burrito, and I didn't like it.

Ray's Tepeyac Flautas Beef

Ray's Tepeyac's 'Flautas' come with chicken or beef and I got the beef. Other than not being long enough to really be a 'flauta' these were crispy and well made. I really liked them and would get them again.

The only down side is that all those beans get everywhere and I've started taking a second shirt when I go to ray's. Then again, I'm a fat slob.

Ray's Tepeyac Ray's Platter

Ray's Tepeyac's "Ray's Platter" is what you get if you mixed all the appetizers together. It's a lot of food, enough for a whole meal, and full of cheese.

The only down side of this thing is that the chips got soggy. I'm not a fan of jalapeno chunks in my nachos, but I think most folks like that so I can't call it a negative.

I recommend this but try not to fill up on the free chips if you get this offering or you'll need to take some home.

Ray's Tepeyac Salsa and Chips

Ray's Tepeyac's 'Salsa and Chips' come with every meal and are offered in an endless supply making any meal filling. The big thing about this is that they come so much faster than breads at other restaurants.

You could come into this place ordering nothing but desert and walk out with your gut full with these things.

Omega Burger Pineapple Shake

Omega Burger's 'Pineapple Shake' is a classic thick vanilla shake with pineapple juice mixed in. When I say thick I mean that you can't get it up the straw for a good five minutes until it melts some.

The flavor of pineapple wasn't very strong but it was there. I think this was enough of a novelty to be worth trying. It stands out because it's just so different.

Omega Burger Pastrami Sandwich

Omega Burger's 'Pastrami Sandwich' is very wet. I'm not a big pastrami fan, but I'm not sure it should be so wet. I would have preferred grilled pastrami which would rely more on the mustered for moister and be more flavorful.

Now this sandwich was big and you got a good deal of meat with it so on the filling side of things it was top of the lot. I can't say I would make this a regular on my buy list, but if you like pastrami you are in for a great meal.

Omega Burger Chili Fries

Omega Burger's 'Chili Fries' are a meal unto themselves so if you're going to eat these bring a friend. I weigh in at more than three bills and I had trouble finishing them. I had to take the rest of my meal home.

I can't say these are meaty because they're not. They're also not very spicy if you want to get spicy food. What they are is big and filling.

I wouldn't go getting these again, because I'm trying to drop a few pounds, but past that I rate them a B-.

The Old Ship English Custard

The Old Ship's 'English Custard' is very English. It's kind of like rice pudding only not as sweet. The flavor of this was so mild that it was hard to get a handle on.

I almost felt like I was eating the smell of something. Too bad it has the calories of real food because if it was as light on body as it was on the tongue I would eat this all the time.

The Old Ship Cook's Scampi and Chips

The Old Ship's 'Cook's Scampi and Chips' normally comes with coleslaw but as I have never understood coleslaw I got asparagus instead.

The shrimp was excellent with a light batter that crumbled in my mouth. I could have used more chips. All in all, this was a light meal but a good one and I would get this again.

Sunday, April 3, 2016

The Old Ship Sausage Rolls

The Old Ship's 'Sausage Rolls' are on the expensive side for what you get being just two rolls cut in half. If you can get past that these are rather good. They are very English with a mild flavor but are served with stake sauce to spice them up if you like.

Mississippi Mud Black & Tan

'Mississippi Mud Black & Tan' is not what I think of when I say black and Tan. A mix of beers this is dark and slightly bitter making it a good home, back water beer. This is great for sipping on a cool afternoon or gulping on a summer night.

If you like dark beer this one is a strong buy and great for relaxing.

Vitamin Water Vital-t

'Vitamin Water Vital-t' tastes like tea, who knew, and it has vitamins so if you drink sweet ice tea this is a good idea. It's no replacement for good old fashion fruit and vegetables, but it is a leg up on canned ice tea in general.
