The Broccoli Spear is a floret with a long stem. It was likely made a thing to sell broccoli that didn't grow as well or nice as other broccoli. Green Giant Broccoli Spears & Butter Sauce has some of the lowest quality broccoli spears I've ever seen. They are clearly main stalk that has been cut to look like a nicer product.
Now, there is nothing wrong with eating main stalk. I cut it up and eat it myself. It's just not a high quality product. It's as healthy for you as any broccoli but has an inferior look and mouthfeel.
If you're eating this to add vegetables to your diet then go four it. If you want to serve something nice for dinner give this a pass,
