Delicious Big D's Burgers inc. Fish and Chips

Anyone who has been reading this blog knows by now that I love fish and chips, so when I walked into  Delicious Big D's Burgers Inc. in Whittier California I didn't have burgers on my mind. The presentation to this is really top notch and the fish and chips are good. I can't say that they stand out much but they will run you as much as fish and chips at Farmer Boy's will so it's not that big of a deal. 

Not bad. 

Black Stag Espresso with Cream

Black Stag Espresso with Cream is a solid mild canned coffee that I just love with ice. I mean, it doesn't get me moving, but it helps and doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. It's not a must have, but not bad at all.

So Delicious Dairy Free Organic Coconutmilk Beverage Original

So Delicious Dairy Free Organic Coconutmilk Beverage Original has a really long name. I mean, are you sure you got enough stuff in that name, dorkus? 

Anyway, it is not milk. It does not taste like milk and is thick as cream. The stuff is okay on my corn flakes and will do just fine if your already on skim milk. Me, I drink the vitamin D stuff with all the fat still in there because I don't see the point of paying for less. 

This is the kind of thing you can take or leave but I do think I've had better in the way of soy milk. 

Nabisco Premium Round Saltine Crackers with Whole Grain

Nabisco Premium Round Saltine Crackers with Whole Grain are a beefier form of cracker. I think they would go better with salty things like cheese and meat, but I used them for this funny stuff.  

I think these things are not bad, but they don't need so much salt if you put lunch meat on them. Then again, if you take away the salt are they still saltines? 

Baker's Drive-Thru Double Baker

Baker's Drive-Thru is a mid sized burger chain making its way towards Los Angeles with real meat and wonky hours. I mean, they close a ten and keep the drive through open till midnight but don't have a paper clock. 

Now the Double Baker here is a classic American burger. It's got more meat than you should eat, but I don't mind. 

Vine Smoothie Peach

As you can see Vine Smoothie is refined enough to attract discerning pallets like my cat Nimh. She was very intent on keeping me company as I enjoyed this frosty treat. 

The Peach flavor can use more peach as the smoothie is what stands dominant. The white wine is no where to be found in the flavor.

I like to pare this as I do most Irish creams. That is to say I add it to coffee which gives me a nice display and pleasant flavor.  

This stuff isn't my jam, but I want to try the other varieties. 

Olivia Wild Alaskan Flounder

Olivia Wild Alaskan Flounder is a fast cooking soft white fish that's not as flaky as I would like it to be. The smaller fish are less likely to contain harmful pollutants so these are a good deal.

Fish in general is hard to review because it tends to be so mild. Still, this is good stuff that will go with most meals. 

RC Burgers in South Gate Fried Zucchini

RC Burgers in South Gate Fried Zucchini is, as is most fried zucchini, a thing to dip in ranch. I can't say much else for it, but it did go well with ranch.

Goodbelly Probiotics Crunchybar Honey Almond Butter

Goodbelly Probiotics Crunchybar are one of those hippy things you eat because you think you have the wrong critters running around in your guts. It's fancy yogert.

The Honey Almond Butter flavor goes well with coffee and is rather good. Not so good that I'm running to buy more but just the right amount of good so that I will eat them. 

Costco Mantacada

A Mantacada is a Spanish muffin. They taste like pound cake and are normal flat like the ones in back not like the one on the dish. I thought these were cornbread at first. I would have liked cornbread better. 

Costco, why you no sell cornbread?!

RC Burgers in South Gate Onion Rings

As you can see Onion Rings at RC Burgers in South Gate are the flaky kind. Everyone like their onion rings a little different. Me, I like them best where the onion is part of the ring and so cannot be separated. 

If you likes most onion rings these are a winner for you. Me, I've had better. 

adidas Excel Lunch Bag

I picked up two of these adidas Excel Lunch Bags from Costco and they are rather nice. They keep cold and you can put your cold packs in the side pocket where your apple is protected by a mesh. 

The nifty little things have a top clip for securing on your work bag or gym bag and the clip has holes in it for a carabiner. I have to admit these things work great and they go through the wash. 

Good deal 

Archibald's Drive-Thru Monster Burger

Archibald's Drive-Thru is a small chain of fast food places that inhabit Southern California. I hit the one in Ontario and got the Monster Burger. 

As monsters go this has nothing on my sister or a hippo, but it's big and beefy with two patties, bacon, and avocado.  I have to say I was happy to eat this beast. 

It features real meat unlike the golden arches or the burger lord. In other words, I call this a buy.  

RC Burgers in South Gate French Fries

I took a trip to South Gate California for work and figured on getting some local color. So I stopped at the local RC Burger. I'm kind of sure this is a common name referring to a number of non related burger establishments, but I got shrimp anyway.

Well, my shrimp came with a mountain of french fries and me being me ate the lot of them. It was hard, but I'm willing to suffer for my art.  

They are a bit salty but perfectly fine otherwise. 

Guan's Mushroom Co. Oyster

I ran into these Oyster Mushrooms from Guan's Mushroom Co. and you know I had to try them. I did eat the firm part of the base which is considered poor eating but not inedible. 

I can say that these are a welcome change from my normal mushroom, but they will never replace the common shiitake. The verity of textures give this mushroom a changing mouth feel that makes them something worth trying.

I would buy these again, but then I love mushrooms. 

Carl's Jr. Spicy Chicken Sandwich

A coworker got me this Carl's Jr. Spicy Chicken Sandwich and I have to say it was spicy. Not like really spicy but spicy enough to live up to the name. You can tell they put spice on there and that's all I can ask for from this limp excuse for a sandwich.

RC Burgers in South Gate Dinner Roll

On my last trip to RC Burgers in South Gate I got the Shrimp Basket and it was topped with this dinner roll. Is it much to talk about? No, but I have to review things so I'm reviewing this. Once you're so stuffed that you can't eat any more you can take this one and eat it about half an hour later, because that's how people work. 

Anyway, Good stuff. 

Tyson Entree Kit Roasted Ginger Chicken

I normally don't buy Tyson since I found out that they torture chickens. I mean, I want to eat them, but needless suffering is never a good thing. 

When I saw this 'Entree Kit' it was selling for less than a dollar for two and I figured there had to be something wrong with it so it gave me an opportunity to bash the chicken Nazis.  

Now the Roasted Ginger Chicken is light on the ginger and for some reason comes out cold no matter how long I left it in the skillet. I mean, I burnt that stuff good the second time and it was still not hot enough.  

Was it good? It was okay, can't say it was bad, but it didn't thrill me. If you're some dude trying to make a woman feel like you worked hard they may just do the trick. It's not that great otherwise.

Amazon Essentials Men's 7-Pack Tag-Free Briefs

My balls are angry at me for buying these over my normal Jockey. I mean, yeah, they were less expensive, but the had so much less crotch room for the same size that I can hardly wear them. I mean, so fail.

RC Burgers South Gate Shrimp Basket

I had a job out in South Gate and decided to stop at RC Burgers to get some local color. I saw this shrimp basket and figured it was a good deal. What I did not know was that it was a fried tour de force of the offerings of the restaurant featuring fries, zucchini, and onion rings. Just looking at it makes me want to go back and get more.

Luke's Organic Chips, Ancient Grain, Multigrain & Seed Chip

Luke's Organic Chips, Ancient Grain, Multigrain & Seed Chip are the kind of chip that really resonate with me. I don't know why but I love these chips. I can eat them on their own but they are also well paired with hummus or cheese. 

With only 3 grams of fiber per serving these cannot be called health food but they come close and are good. 

Kool-Aid Sparklers Tropical Punch

Kool-Aid Sparklers Tropical Punch is Kool-Aid soda, and like all good tropical punch is a refreshing blend of 'I can't put my finger on it' flavor.  

I know what you're thinking, 'does it pair well with vodka?' Yes, it does and will make a great addition to your party or a 2 a.m. work session.

Pioneer Chicken Spicy Rice

If you're in Bell Gardens or LA you may just decide to take in some local color from Pioneer Chicken. It was once all over Southern California but is now down to just two establishments. 

If you do walk in you may think that rather than the old french fries you may want some spicy rice. Well, that would be a great idea because the rice is spicy enough to be called spicy and is full of flavor and chunks of chicken. 

I have to admit I started crying when I was eating this but then I think it's because I was thinking of my late mother who was the last person to take me to Pioneer Chicken as a boy.  Time is a real pain in the tail.

Pioneer Chicken Fish and Chips

When I was a boy Pioneer Chicken was a place my family went for dinner. Now with only two locations left in Southern California (LA and Bell Gardens) I had almost forgotten the place. 

Well, I never had their fish and chips before but it's good fish and chips. The fish is not too fishy and the chips are nice and crisp. In fact, just looking at these makes me want to go back there and have more. Too bad next time I have to try something new.

Oreo Fireworks Limited Edition

Oreo has an interesting idea of what limited addition means given that they make these Oreo and pop rocks things every year. Well, I have to admit these are good. I mean, they remind me of the Oreos I had as a kid with the cream that didn't suck and the cookies that were not too dry. Yes they do start crackling in your mouth after you eat a few. I'm not sure I like that, but it doesn't detract from the cookies. 

In any case, these should be hitting the sale rack soon. Keep an eye out. 

Hostess Star Spangled Ding Dongs

Just when I thought I had found all there was to find for Independence Day here comes 'Hostess Star Spangled Ding Dongs' sounding like an X rated homosexual version of Captain America. 

These Ding Dongs are in no way made better by the hard candy sugar crud that spangles them. However, I will point out that being really fat is very American so eat all these you can find and look like me. 

To be honest, these aren't that bad. 

Hengstenberg Medium Hot Mustered

Hengstenberg Medium Hot Mustered isn't hot at all really. I mean, it was hardly noticeable, and I'm not a mustered fellow. This is a mild creamy mustered that comes in that little beer mug that I'm so going to keep and drink iced coffee out of.

RC Burgers (South Gate) Burrito

Burritos at RC Burger in South Gate come with a number of fillings as well as salsa and guacamole. I can't have raw onion so it got me sick but tasted good.
